Welcome to the Eatons Community Association website covering the old village areas of Eaton Socon and Eaton Ford, once in Bedfordshire but now in Cambridgeshire.
During the year we hold various events –
May Day Celebrations
The highlight of our year is the annual May Day Celebrations held on the first May Bank Holiday Monday. Join us on Eaton Socon Village Green outside St Mary’s Church on the Great North Rd to enjoy an afternoon of village festivities with stalls, a BBQ, May Pole dancing and other local entertainment. If you wish to have a stall or would like to entertain then contact us at esca@freeuk.com.
Local History Exhibitions –
These are held on the first May Bank Holiday Weekend at St Mary’s Church, Eaton Socon. Each year a different area is researched and an exhibition of maps, photos and writing shows an aspect of our history. Eaton Socon archives are also available for research.
Local History Booklets
The Association has printed several booklets which are available during the May Weekend Exhibition and at the May Day Celebrations. There are booklets on themes such as life in the 1930’s, the church fire, the Eatons at War, The River, The Inns and trails around the Eatons. There are also booklets on the Eaton Socon School Admission Registers, gravestones in the churchyard and cemetery, electoral registers and censuses. In the last few years we have been researching all buildings in the Eatons and several booklets have been written listing the history of buildings and their families.
The local Lock Up/Cage
This small prison is open on some Sunday afternoons during the summer months. Visit the tiny lock up and imagine what it must have been like to spend a night in this small, dark, cold lock up. Admission is free.
Open Gardens
A popular event held in June when some local gardens in both Eaton Socon and Eaton Ford are open for one afternoon.
Neat Street Award
A popular competition among the streets – where streets can compete for a plaque and some bulbs or a tree to brighten up their road.
Contact us at esca@freeuk.com if you are interested in finding out about these and other events.
