The 6th Bedford International Kite Festival took place on the 31st May-1st June 2008 in Russell Park.

 

 

 

 

Once again the festival was a massive success, attracting some of the best kite flyers from around the world and across the UK.

 

The Kite workshop marquee was again very busy, producing a large number of kites that were then flown in the public arena.

 

 

Once again we  attracted some of the worlds premiere Kite Flyers for the Festival. Some of our international Flyers included:

 

From Switzerland we have Iqbal Husain, renowned for his Centipede Kites-see a crocodile head with handbags as it's body, his Chicken complete with frying pans body which lays and drops eggs. A cows head with 70 beef burgers for it's body and many more. 

 

From Bali we welcome RA Helmi Ginanti & Ida Bagus Ucrasena Narendra. RA Helmi Ginanti is a Princess of the Bali Royal Family & Secretary of the Bali International Kite commitee, with her husband Ida Bagus Ucrasena Narendra they will be flying traditional Bali and Indonesian Kites.

 

From Holland we have Bas & Sara Vreeswijk. Bas Vreeswijk-hollands most famous Kite maker-he has won many prizes throughout the world for his beautifully appilques and decorated kite most with a Japanese theme.

Other Kite Flyers from Holland include John Verheij & herman van den Broek. They are the most experienced Kite makers in Holland and will be flying a variety of Kites from their impressive collection.

 

From the USA we have Meg Albers-the organiser of the Niagra Falls Kite Festival. Meg uses Kites for education and will be flying a selection of Kites of all shapes and sizes.

Also from the USA we have George Peters & Melanie Walker-both world famous kite Flyers that have flown Kites all over the world.

 

Australia's representatives are Godrey & Karen Gamble. Godrey & Karen are Australia's best Kite make makers. Their 'Megs Head' inflatable won best soft Kite and best od show at the Festival of winds at Bondi in Sydney. Be amazed by their beautifully decorated geometrical Kites.

 

From Chile we have Ron and Sandy Gibian-who are renowned world wide for their visually impressive Kites.

 

Peter Lynne will be representing New Zealand. Peter is the worlds most well known Kite maker famous for his huge three-dimensional Kites and holds the Guiness world record for largest kite ever flown.

 

As well as the best world kiting has to offer, the festival also boated the best of British Kiting. Some of our British contingence included; Karl Longbottom, George Penney, Nick James, Michael Goddard, Dave Holt, George Webster, Hugh&Lynne Blowers and Mr&Mrs Goodman. We also have two groups of flyers; the White Horse & the Wigsley Wings.

 

With such an array of UK talent and world class Kite flyers and makers attending this year, the festival is shaping up to be a fantastic events and one not to be missed.

 

We have just added another fantastic additional to this years programme-hot air balloons will be setting down from 6p.m. on Saturday.

 

 

Hot Air Balloons will again be attending the Festival
